Grimaldi Sunday

Since 1946 clowns have met on the 1st Sunday in Feb in East London organised by All Saint’s Church & Clowns International the oldest club for clowns in the world.

Irrespectively of their own religious beliefs Clowns from all over the UK and overseas come to remember joeys who have left us & celebrate clowning & father of clowns Joey Grimaldi. I have been to this event many times and, I have been going since I was a teenager & I try to attend & help out when I can, my children now come with me also… Again it was a wonderful service this year and nice to see clown friends that I often don’t see, fantastic to see the public packing into the church again to witness this interesting clown tradition (during covid the service was held online. Grimaldi Sunday always ends with cutting & sharing of the cake with a free clown show for the local community before everyone says farewell..this year in the show my son Ollie (9) helped me with a builders act we have been working on, it involves large hammers a sore thumb, juggling Pieces wood & balancing bricks! Both Ollie & I were featured in the Independent news paper, & here are some lovely photos from the day thanks to Steve Jacks & Gaz de vere for the photos.
